Colonial Academy Overview
Colonial Academy is operated by Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 on behalf of its member school districts. The program is intended to provide educational/treatment-oriented alternative placement for identified at-risk children, serving Alternative Education, Emotional Support, Life Skills Support, Autism and Partial Hospitalization students.
Students at Colonial Academy experience academic and vocational study, character development, individual and group counseling, family support group counseling, crisis intervention and positive community experiences. The academic spectrum offers a standards-based curriculum for students participating in the Pennsylvania State System of Assessment (PSSA), Keystone Assessment, alternate curriculum options for special education students participating in the Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA), and vocational training opportunities including Culinary Arts and Construction Management. The program was designed to successfully return students to their home schools, enter the employment world, and become a positive impact on their community. The program builds on students’ strengths, enhancing self esteem, allowing for individual growth and development, promoting academic and personal success and establishing a positive view of the future.
Additional Academic and Behavioral Health Support Programs at Colonial Academy include: Physical Education, Art Education, Drug and Alcohol Intervention/Prevention, Anger Management, Psychological Services, Student Assistance Program, Positive Behavior Support, Violence Prevention Groups, and Social Skills.
