What are the Excellence in Education Awards?

The Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 Excellence in Education Awards is an annual program recognizing outstanding educational initiatives across the public schools in the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 region.  Presented by Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 and its member school districts, this prestigious award celebrates and honors exceptional teaching and learning programs in our schools and communities.

 

What are the categories for nominations?

Award presentations may be made in the following categories:

  • Category One: Educational programs or activities that take creative approaches toward providing highly effective teaching and learning opportunities.
  • Category Two:  Educational programs or activities that are built around active engagement of parents, families and/or the community in school efforts that strengthen or enhance student performance and school success.
  • Category Three: Community partner that has a demonstrated commitment to supporting efforts to strengthen and preserve public schools.
 

How do I apply to win an Excellence in Education Award?

A nomination consists of this online form - Nominations may be submitted by any resident, school student, school employee or school entity on behalf of the public schools in Monroe, Northampton or Pike County.  Each submission may only be entered in one category.  On the nomination form you will also find a copy of the judging rubrics for each category to guide you through the application process.

 

When are the Excellence in Education Awards taking place this year?

CIU 20 will honor students recognized by the National Merit Scholar Program as Finalists, Semi-Finalists and Commended students.

 

Please submit your high school’s students recognized as National Merit Scholars by February 15, 2025 on this electronic form: www.ciu20.org/submitscholars/. If your school doesn’t have any this year, please specify that on the form.
