Author Visits IU Classrooms

On April 17th, students in Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 classrooms at Palmer Elementary, Easton Area SD and Farmersville Elementary, Bethlehem Area SD, met with Niurka Ozuna, the author of "What's Wrong with Grandma?" "¿Qué le pasa a abuelita?" The book is about a child who has a grandparent diagnosed with Schizophrenia and the challenges that come along with it. The story is written in English and Spanish and opens up the conversation about mental health and acceptance of people's differences.

Ms. Ozuna read her book to the students and facilitated engaging activities on the topics of inclusion and belonging. It was valuable for students to relate themes presented in the book with experiences in their own lives and contributes to CIU 20's vision of creating an inclusive environment for staff and students..
