PAIUNet, the organizing body for the statewide education network has recently released the Keystone Commons which it is describing as a social learning website. The website is built upon an open source platform called Elgg. The site provides a “walled garden” within which teachers can encourage their students to use technology tools such as wikis and blogs without having to worry about unknown people joining in their groups. User accounts are strictly restricted to students and staff of educational entities that are members of the PAIUNet consortium which includes all of the CIU20 Wide Area Network (WAN) members. PAIUNet is in the process of training personnel from each Intermediate Unit to qualify them to train trainers in local schools to utilize the service. Please contact Tom Baileys, Technology Director at CIU20 for additional information. You may reach Mr. Baileys via email, tbaileys@ciu20.org or via telephone, 610-515-6533.
